BCP Honda Factory Junior Team racer Hixson McInneshas strung together an incredible weekend at Broadford for Rd 2 of the Victorian Junior MX Titles after a freak gate malfunction in moto 1 saw the Team Honda rider charge from last place up to an impressive 4th place!
The kid from Cooma in NSW would bounce back in moto 2 making his way from third place to take an 11 second win. And then backed it up with a hard fought wire to wire win in the final moto of the day. Coming up just one point short of the overall win at Round 2 with second place on the day. Retaining his championship points lead in the A grade 250cc class by a slender one point over fellow Honda rider Kayden Strode!
“The drop of the gate in moto 1 was a weird one for me,” said McInnes.
“The gate bounced straight back up off the concrete, hit my front wheel and then the gate bounced back up again dragging my foot off the back of the bike and kicking my back wheel sideways. I’ve never seen a gate do that before! I worked really hard to make my way through the pack and missed out on third place by a couple of bike lengths. If I just could have made my way into third in that first moto I would have got the overall on the day but it wasn’t to be! I’m really happy with how the last two motos went. The track was so deep and rutty with all the rain we had on Friday night so I’m stoked to come away still leading the championship and looking forward to the next round of Pro MX in a couple of weeks.”
Team Manager Lee Hoganwas impressed with the efforts of McInnes and particularly his come from behind ride in moto one!
“I’ve never seen a start gate do that before and I’m glad I caught it on video to be able to show the Steward and Clerk of the Course,” said Hogan.
“They apologised and fixed the issue for the rest of the day! But none the less, the charge from last place through to 4th in moto one, and then taking back to back wins in the final two motos is a great sign and solid reward for the hard work that Hixson has been putting in.”
Hixson McInnes will be joined by his BCP Honda Factory Junior Team-mate Seth Shackletonin two weeks time at Wodonga for Rd 3 of the Pro MX Championship!
