Round 1 of the East Coast MX Series was run over the weekend at the iconic Appin circuit just south of Sydney in NSW. With the juniors racing Sunday the skies opened up and drenched the hard pack circuit making the going extremely tough for all involved.
BCP Pro Circuit Honda Junior Development riders Dante Hyam and Tanesha Harnett participated at the event and got their season off to a good start considering the atrocious conditions, with Hyam earning himself a solid third place up on the podium while Harnett impressed by battling hard all day against the best junior boys in the country.
“That was tough out there today,” said Dante Hyam.
“I made the job even tougher by struggling with my starts but I was happy with how I came through the pack. I know I need to work on my mud riding a bit also but overall I’m really happy with where we are at for this early part of the season. I love the new bike and my training has been going really well.”
With no women’s class on the day current NSW and Vic State Champion Tanesha Harnett chose to ride in the premiere boys class for some extra training leading into her big championship events.
“Wow, that was crazy today!” said Harnett.
“I love getting in there and battling with the boys but that was just chaos. We couldn’t see from about half way down the main straight and then it was just survival from there. To tell the truth I had an absolute ball out there in the mud, but I’m glad its dad that has to wash my bike.”
The final stages of testing and development for the BCP Pro Circuit Honda CRF250R race bikes will take place over the next few weeks as the team prepare for their first major championship events starting in April.
“I’m glad that both Dante and Tanesha got their first hit-out out of the way over the weekend,” said Team Manager Lee Hogan.
“Even though conditions were tough, its still good to line up on a gate and get some races under your belt. They both did well but there’s always things that you can improve on and we’ll continue to keep chipping away on our weak links.”
The team will now prepare for Round One of the Victorian Junior Motocross Championship which will be held in Warrnambool at the Ship Wreck Coast MCC April 7th and 8th.
